Stakeholders Applaud Nigeria’s Democratic Journey, Cite Significant Gains

Similarly, As Nigeria marks twenty five years of uninterrupted democracy, stakeholders of Northern Senatorial District of the State say it has yielded much results for the nation.

They stated this in a separate chats with NBSNEWS on the gains of the country’s democracy since nineteen ninety nine.

Since 1999, Nigeria has to a large extent experienced some sorts of democratic principles such as representative government in which the people vote for their leaders, rule of law where the constitution is supreme, exercise of fundamental human rights including the freedom of association and freedom of speech.

Some stakeholders in Northern Senatorial District of Nasarawa State, including the State PDP Secretary, Alhaji Adamu Bako Ninga and Best Barau of College of Education Akwanga expressed satisfaction with the system of government, noting that democracy had over the years impacted positively on Nigerians.

According to them, democracy is gradually taking its roots in every facets of national life, maintaining that some of the rights and privileges enjoyed today resulted from a thriving democracy.

The duo also highlighted some developmental strides recorded thus far particularly in Nasarawa State which include infrastructure, youth and women empowerment, improve health care services, establishment of federal and state institutions, such as Federal University of Lafia, FMC, Keffi, Nasarawa State University Keffi, state Colleges of Health Technology Keffi and Nursing Services Lafia among others.

While describing the country’s democracy as work in progress, Alhaji Adamu Bako and Best Barau maintained that it has come to stay in Nigeria, calling on leaders and representatives at all levels to always prioritise the needs of the people, just as they urged residents to show understanding, cooperation and support leaders to succeed.

Other speakers including Overseer of Agidi Development Area, Amos Tsaku said the uninterrupted democracy has brought a lot of transformation to rural areas and nation in general, where people decide their leaders as against military dictatorship.
