Nasarawa South Senatorial District Residents Hail Democracy’s Successes
Citizens of Nasarawa State have identified democracy as the best form of government, scoring high the successes recorded across the state and the country at large since the return of democracy in 1999.
These were the feelings of some residents of Nasarawa South Senatorial District during separate interviews with NBS News in Awe, Obi, Keana and Lafia Local Government Areas.
Democratic system of government is a form of government in which supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodic free and fair elections.
Hence, since the inception of democracy in the state in 1999, successive administrations have contributed their quotas in attracting dividends of democracy across the state, ranging from transformation of educational and health sectors, construction of both rural and urban road network, provisions of electricity, water supply among others.
Some residents Samaila Tanko from Awe, Adokwe Ladan Obi, Samuel Atsa Keana among others underscored the achievements recorded so far in the area since the coming of democracy saying, the democratic system of government has given citizens of the area opportunity to participate and benefits in governance.
They added that, the construction of Lafia-Awe, Obi-Keana and Lafia-Doma roads, establishment of Federal Institutions such as Federal University Lafia, Federal College of Education Technical Keana among others are tangable gains of democracy enjoyed by the people of the areas.
The residents also commended the developmental stride of the present administration in the state in the areas of road network particularly the ongoing construction of bypass and underpass in Lafia the state capital which according to them will transform the state capital.
In as much as democracy has been adjuged as one of the best forms of government, a lot still needs to be done by those in authority to justify the mandate often given to them by the electorate.
