Labour Lauds Contributory Pension Scheme, Calls for Adherence to Due Process

.Organised Labour has called on the Nasarawa state government to strictly adhere to due process in its efforts to implement the Contributory Pension Scheme for civil servants.The Labour leaders made their position known during a one-day sensitization workshop for stakeholders on the Contributory Pension Scheme, organized by the State Head of Service.State NLC Chairman, Comrade Ayuba Ismaila Okoh representing the Labour Union, lauded the Contributory Pension Scheme as one of the best policies for civil servants and stressed the importance of adhering to due process in the implementation of the scheme for the benefits of all stakeholders.Echoing this submission, TUC leader Comrade Moh’d Umar Doma and Joint Negotiation Council Chair Shawulu Tama affirmed the commitment of Labour leaders to supporting the scheme. They emphasized the need for public hearings to gather input from civil servants and ensure that the best outcomes are achieved for workers.During a presentation on the benefits of the Contributory Pension Scheme, State Head of the Scheme, Carol Uzuoma, clarified misconceptions among workers, noting that twenty-five states have already enacted the law, while six states are in the process of doing so and urged the legislative arm of the government to collaborate with the executive to ensure successful implementation.On her part, The Head of Service, Abigail Waya, encouraged Labour leaders to align with the government’s vision, noting the positive impact the scheme has had in areas such as housing and loans for civil servants.The workshop provided stakeholders with an opportunity tom make a case for thorough discussions before the policy is rolled out.
