FG Commences Work on 250-Unit Housing Estate in Lafia

In fulfilment of its promise to Nigerians, the Federal government on Saturday commenced work on the 250-unit housing estate in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

Situated in Azuba, a suburb of Lafia, when completed, the houses will shelter civil servants, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, an architect, said plans have been made for 50-one bedroom, 150-two bedroom and 50 three-bedroom semi-detached bungalows.

He added that the houses will be built to allow room for expansion if the owners desire to do so, as their income improves.

Architect Dangiwa said the project is a continuation of the ground-breaking effort nationwide as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda and his Ministry’s action programme.

The first, he said was the 3,112 housing units which the President opened in February. In an overview of the exercise, the Minister said “The Renewed Hope cities and estates project is an initiative of the President Tinubu-led administration to bridge the housing gaps in the country, to deliver 50,000 housing units nationwide under phase one of the project,” he said.

Commenting specifically on the project in Nasarawa, he said “Nasarawa is the 12th state where we are doing the ground-breaking, and we plan to have all of them completed within three months and made available to Nigerians in line with Mr.

President’s desire to provide quality housing for all Nigerians. This phase of the project, he announced, will be funded from the 50 billion 2023 supplementary budget. He also said states not covered in this phase will be covered in the 2024 budget.

In his remarks, Governor Abdullahi Sule thanked the Federal government for choosing Nasarawa as a beneficiary state for the first phase of the project.

He explained that his administration has bought into the President’s idea, which is why he recently sold the government quarters in the state to civil servants on an owner-occupier basis.

Usman Osidi, Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, said the Bank is committed to achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda in the housing sector.

Danmalam Sani who spoke on behalf of the estate developers promised that his group would deliver quality houses within the stipulated time frame.
