Speakers at an empowerment programme made the call at the City Hall in Lafia on Thursday.
The empowerment programme, which attracted beneficiaries from four electoral wards of Lafia—Chiroma, Gayam, Makama and Zanwa—was organised by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, and the State APC Chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello.
More than 1,000 women received 20,000 naira each as a token of appreciation for their support for the present administration.
Describing the gesture as a significant step towards helping women establish and strengthen small businesses, former Commissioner for Revenue Generation, Bashir Aliyu, urged the beneficiaries to remain politically active in order to continue benefiting from democratic dividends.
His position was also supported by some Special Advisers, including Mohammed Abubakar, Abdullahi Dahiru Angibi and Barrister Mohammed Ibrahim Alkali.
Expressing gratitude to the organisers for the initiative, the Chairman of Lafia Local Government Council, Mohammed Haliru Arabo, who was represented by the APC Chairman of the area, Umar Aliyu Galadima, reiterated the ruling party’s commitment to improving the welfare of women.
He also called on the beneficiaries to sustain their support for the administration.
Other dignitaries who commended the programme included the State APC Secretary, Mr. Yairus Dagusa; former Senatorial aspirant, Barrister Mohammed Elegu; and the women representative, Hajiya Khadija Aliyu Akuwa.
They advised the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the financial support and channel it towards activities that would improve their livelihoods.
In their separate remarks, the organisers of the programme, Aminu Mu’azu Maifata and Dr. Aliyu Bello, explained that four electoral wards within the town were currently benefiting from the programme.
They assured that the empowerment initiative would be extended to the remaining nine wards in Lafia East and Lafia North.
