Gov Sule Receives Accolades for Uplifting Educational Standard in the State in the Last 5 Years
As Governor Abdullahi Sule attains five years in office, Educationists in Nasarawa North have continued to applaud his efforts in uplifting the standard of education in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the state.
They made their views known while interacting with NBS News correspondent in Akwanga, who was on special assignment on the Governor’s efforts at providing conducive environment for teaching and learning in Nasarawa North Senatorial District.
The college of Education Akwanga is the only Government tertiary institution in Nasarawa North Senatorial District.Previous administrations in Nasarawa State have made their impact felt at the only accredited Teacher Training College in Nasarawa State.
According to the Provost of the college, Dr Jonathan Thani, the institution is now witnessing more positive academic revolution through careful implementation of educational programmes and policies initiated by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
“The Governor has installed Internet facilities to enhance research work at the college and also provided Solar boreholes that will give the entire college community portable drinking water.”
Apart from providing reliable source of water, Thani, explained that the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule, prioritized the welfare of teaching and none teaching staff of the institution, hence the cordial relationship between government and labour unions at the college.
“Recently the Governor had approved the implementation of promotions of staff this is responsible for the industrial harmony we are witnessing at the college.”
The Provost disclosed that, the management of the college on its part has addressed issues of excellence by ensuring that students can now defend their projects.
On Secondary and Primary education, the State Chairman of Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria, Comrade Habila Abundaga, also scored high the performance of Governor Abdullahi Sule.
He noted that the renovation of several dilapidated classrooms across Nasarawa North Senatorial District have helped in providing conducive environment for teaching and learning in the zone and ther parts of the state.
Comrade Abundaga said the education sector, had in the last five years, also witnessed quality leadership through the payment of NECO fees to final year students of secondary school, saying such efforts have always taking off burden on parents.
Another area of applause for Governor Abdullahi Sule is the establishment of Second Chance School at Kurmin Tagawye in Akwanga Local Government Area.
Coordinator of the School, Dr Agustina Ombugadu, stated that the school which is the first of its kind in North Central Nigeria, was established to give another opportunity to especially young ladies who have not completed secondary school to learn different skills for self reliance.
” At the second chance school we teach those who did not have the opportunity to complete school how to Sew clothes, Caterine, soap making and a lots of other skills and recently, we were able to graduate 160 dropouts and the governor was here to give them encouragement”.
