NSG Committed to Addressing Issues of Acute Malnutrition

Nasarawa State Government says it is committed to addressing issues of malnutrition in the state.

Governor Abdullahi Sule stated this at the launch of the state action plan for food and nutrition.

Launching the 5-year Nasarawa State Multi-Sectoral Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition, Governor Abdullahi Sule said the State Government recognizes the importance of nutrition, hence committing time and resources towards ensuring the success of nutrition programmes in the state.

Emphasizing the importance of the event to the people of Nasarawa state, Governor Sule noted that there is need for the food and nutrition committee in the state to live above board in the discharge of its responsibility.

The Governor added that the launch of the action plan on food and nutrition will enhance the enlightenment of people on the importance of having a well-nourished population, thus appreciating development partners for their input.

Earlier, State Commissioner of Finance, Budget and Planning, Hajiya Munirah Abdullahi assured that her ministry will live up to its task of implementing the action plan from 2023 to 2028, to be achieved in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health and that of Education as was highlighted by their Commissioners, Doctor Gaza Gomna and Doctor John Mamman.

To the development partners working in Nasarawa State, they will continue to sustain their support to such initiative, as was posited by the representative of CASCADE, lauding Governor Abdullahi Sule for according impetus to nutrition-related programmes and called for the strict implementation of budgetary provisions.

Sunday Okoronkwo of Civil Society-Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria, CS-SUNN also saw the Governor’s commitment in the area of nutrition and promised to support the government turn action plans into positive results.

This, according to the representative of UNICEF, Jane Amwe attracted the support of the organization because of the nexus between nutrition and good health, assuring that Nasarawa State has the necessary support.
