The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) Federal University of Lafia chapter has joined its counterparts nationwide to commence a week-long warning strike.

The Chairman of SSANU Federal University of Lafia, Mr. Daniel Dajen made this announcement during a peaceful protest staged at the institution’s entrance.

The national leadership of SSANU had last week issued a one-week ultimatum to the federal government to address several demands, notably is the overdue payment of four months’ salaries, among other pressing issues.

Following the government’s failure to meet their demands within the stipulated time, SSANU declared a one-week nationwide warning strike.

In compliance with the national directive, members of SSANU at the Federal University of Lafia took to the streets with placards bearing messages demanding their rights, including the approved salary payment and the reconstitution of the University Governing Council.

Addressing members at the university’s entrance, the Chairman of SSANU Federal University of Lafia, Daniel Dajen explained that the warning strike initiated by the national SSANU body aims to prompt the government to honor the previous agreements made with the union.

While noting that the withheld salaries and the release of the fifty billion naira earned allowance are critical demands, Dajen said failure to address these issues could disrupt academic activities at the university.
