Afro-Religious Revival: Scholar Champions Traditional Philosophy to Define Continental Identity
The need for Africa continent to institute a traditional philosophy of religion in relating to its culture has been advocated.
Guest lecturer at the first international conference of the department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Prof. Alloy Ihuah  stated this during the first day of the conference in Keffi.
Speaking, on the topic, “indigenous African spiritualities, power and development”, professor Alloy Ihuah of the Department of Philosophy, Benue State University, Makurdi, noted that the philosophical foundation of Western education has exploited African continent and that imperialism was another factor that brought under-developement in Africa.
According to Professor Ihuah, it was the power of Philosophy that enabled Japan to grow and become the giant of Asia, stating that if Africa realized its potentials, it will denounce European culture.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Prof. Abdullahi Salau Madibbo, commended the department of philosophy and Religious Studies for the event, maintaining that the management will support any programme that will improve the academic standard of the institution.
Deputy Dean, Faculty of Arts, Dr. Mathew Michael and the Head of department, Philosophy and Religious Studies, Dr. Gesila Nneka Uzukwu, said the topic of the first international conference of the departmeny was carefully selected due to the nature of the African societies.
