Emir of Lafia Urges Wealthy Individuals to Support Vulnerable Communities Amid Economic Hardship
Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad (Retired), has called on affluent individuals to direct their resources toward alleviating the economic hardships faced by vulnerable members of society. This appeal was made during a cash disbursement event held at his palace in Lafia on Thursday.
The event saw the distribution of five thousand naira each to 200 vulnerable men and women, facilitated by the Zakkat and Waqaf committee, aimed at providing relief during the current economic downturn in Nigeria. The committee, established by the emir, has been actively working to raise awareness among wealthy Muslims about their obligation to give Zakkat to those in need, as outlined in the Qur’an.
Emphasizing the significance of Zakkat and Waqaf in purifying wealth, Emir Sidi Bage Muhammad urged well-to-do Muslims not to neglect their responsibilities, warning that failing to comply with God’s commandments could lead to divine displeasure.
Justice Badamasi Maina (Retired), Chairman of the Zakkat and Waqaf committee in Lafia Local Government, acknowledged the contributions of some individuals who have responded positively to the committee’s efforts. However, he expressed concern over the reluctance of many wealthy individuals to fulfill their Zakkat obligations.
Beneficiaries of the cash disbursement expressed their gratitude to the committee and prayed for increased prosperity for those who contribute to such charitable efforts.
