Nasarawa Social Workers Urged to Prioritize Humanity Over Material Gains

Social workers in Nasarawa State have been reminded that their profession is a calling to serve humanity, rather than a means to achieve material gains. This message was conveyed by Dr. Agule Solomon, Acting State Chairman of the National Association of Social Workers, during the 2025 World Social Workers Day celebration held at Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic in Lafia.
The event, which featured an interactive session among lecturers and students, aimed to inculcate the spirit of service to humanity. Dr. Agule Solomon, speaking through the State Secretary, Prince Gambo Ogiri, described the profession as a noble career that provides members with the opportunity to serve humanity, especially those in need of care and support.
Prince Ogiri encouraged aspiring social workers to take pride in their calling, anticipating greater rewards that come from selfless service. He also assured students of the association’s support and patronage, aiming to make them full-time members through registration with the state chapter.
The Head of the Social Development Department, Dr. Martina Pojwan, urged students to exhibit the right morals and rectitude as humanitarian workers. The event featured paper presentations on various topics, including promoting quality and consistency in service delivery, strengthening intergenerational solidarity, and social vices and examination malpractice.
The celebration commenced with a walk around the campus by the students, emphasizing the importance of social work in serving humanity.
