INEC Declares Omadefu Winner of Re-Run Election
The Independent Electoral Commission, INEC has declared Mohammed Adamu Omadefu of the All Progressives Congress, APC winner of the re-run election for Keana State House of Assembly constituency.
INEC Returning Officer for Keana State House of Assembly constituency, Associate Professor Hassan Imam of Federal University of Lafia announced the result at the Commission’s office in Keana.
It would be recalled that on 28th November, 2023, the Court of Appeal in Abuja declared the 18th March, 2023 State House of Assembly election for Keana Constituency inconclusive and ordered for a re-run election in 5 polling units of Agaza electoral ward.
Declaring the result after collating the results of the re-run election of 5 polling units of Agaza electoral ward, the INEC Returning Officer, Associate Prof. Hassan Imam of Federal University of Lafia announced Mohammed Adamu Omadefu of the All Progressives Congress, APC as the winner of the election (scored 8,609) to defeat his closest rival, Basil Osheka of PDP (scored 7,917).
Reacting on the outcome of the election, Mohammed Adamu Omadefu who appreciated people of Agaza electoral ward and the entire people of Keana for the love and support accorded him, promised to consolidate on the numerous achievements he recorded for the betterment of people of the constituency.
However, all effort to reach Basil Osheka of PDP to speak on the outcome of the re-run election proved abortive as he neither responded to calls nor text message as at press time.
An observer of the election, Dr. Adebayo Babatunde of Your Vote is Voice Africa Initiative Abuja, said the election was peaceful and transparent and commended voters for the maturity exhibited during and after the exercise.
On their part, the SSA to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Public Affairs, Mr. Peter Ahemba and a one time member Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Usman Yakubu Dodo described the victory of Omadefu as a victory for all APC family in Nasarawa State and enjoined the winner to embrace all, irrespective of affiliations for the growth and development of Keana Local Government.
