A bill for a law to allow and enforce the official hanging of the portrait of Emir of Lafia across offices in local government has passed third reading.The bill was passed during the plenary session of the Lafia Legislative Council Thursday.

NBS reports gathered from the Lafia Local government legislative council chamber at GRA, shows that the bill for a law to allow and enforce the official hanging of the Lafia Emir’s portraits across offices in the local government area, is an Executive bill which was earlier submitted to the council by the local government chairman Aminu Mu’azu Maifata.

It would be recalled that few days ago an adhoc Committee was constituted by speaker of the legislative council to work on the bill which had earlier passed through first and second reading.

Presenting the report for third reading after thorough scrutiny by the adhoc Committee, Chairman of the committee Bala Alhaji Adamu councilor representing Gayam electoral ward maintained that the role of traditional institutions in promoting harmonious coexistence cannot be undermined hence the need to adopt the executive bill into law.

Corroborating this submission councilor representing Adogi electoral ward Agidi Bulus Ajeh, his counterpart of Waakwa Abdullahi Bako as well as Eggah Lucky Obile of Akurba ward and Saleh Yahaya Madaki of Shabu/Kwanadare wards explained that the bill would not have come at a better time than now considering the fact that the role being played by the royal father in fostering peace and Unity in the state.

Speaker of the legislative council Philibus Yohanna Attah, who commended the councillors for adopting the bill which will accord more recognition to the traditional institution, announced its passage through third reading.

If the bill finally becomes a law it shall mandate the official hanging of the portrait of Emir of Lafia in all offices, organizations, Unions, agencies and NGO’s operating within Lafia Local government area.
