SUBEB to Take Charge of Primary School Teachers’ Salary Payment in Nasarawa State

Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board is to take over the payment of salaries of Primary school teachers from the State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Chairman Central Committee for the recruitment of primary school teachers and restructuring of the Board, Joseph Kaura, disclosed this when he led members of the committee on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs at his office in Lafia, Thursday.

The Chairman Central Committee for the recruitment of primary school teachers and restructuring of the Universal Basic Education Board, Mr Joseph Kaura, said the visit was to interface with the ministry on the recent approval by the Governor for the transfer of the payment of salaries of Primary school teachers from the Ministry to the Board, saying the Board is fully prepared to implement government decision.

Informing his host that the committee has successfully completed the recruitment of 4700 additional teachers, Joseph Kaura said the committee has since submitted the names of successful candidates to the Governor for final approval.


Responding, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mohammed Iyimoga Oyigye, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mohammed Isah Eyah, vowed to implement the state government’s policies and programs, hence the transfer of teachers’ salaries to the Board.

Speaking on behalf of ALGON, Chairman of Doma Local Government Council, Architect Ahmed Sarkin Usman, stressed the need for the constitution of a committee to ensure seamless transfer of the salaries of primary school teachers from the ministry to the state primary education board.

In their submissions, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Teachers and Civil service, Michael Gida Daniel, State Chairman of NUT and the representatives of Ministry of education and that of Education Secretaries commended the state governor for restructuring NSUBEB for optimal performance.
