Work Ongoing At Farin Ruwa Hydro Dam Project
It is a common knowledge that the Farin Ruwa Hydro Dam Project in Wamba Local Government Area, a flagship programme of the Nasarawa State Government, has absorbed billions of naira in funding.
However, with the intervention of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, the project has progressed to an advanced stage.
On arrival at the project site, the retired Federal Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water Resources, Dr. Musa Wen Ibrahim was taken round the treatment plant, reservoir with a 500,000 liter capacity, and pipe storage areas, by the principal civil engineer, Alfred Nanpan Mwolbang, who explained that the water project is expected to be finalized by the year-end, as the initiative aims to provide water supply to communities in Wamba Local Government Area.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress witnessed, Dr. Musa Wen Ibrahim outlined his involvement in securing Federal intervention for the project which was originally initiated by former Governor Abdullahi Adamu traversing subsequent administrations, it was not until a collaborative effort with the government of Tanko Al-Makura in 2017 that the Federal government assumed responsibility for the project.
Dr. Wen Ibrahim further explained that initially it was envisioned as a simple dam project, but the scope was expanded to include: completion of the dam, provision of water supply, irrigation for year-round farming, and hydroelectric power generation for the entire state and beyond making it four components.
The retired Federal Permanent Secretary who contested for Senate in the 2023 election explained that he was only ambitious about realization of the project but whether as a senator or not he would continue to lobby for it success.
Senior foreman earth-moving, Godwin Uvijabor, highlighted the mobilization of heavy-duty equipment and the ongoing embankment filling work at the site and expressed confidence that they will do the needful.
Gom Mama Mustapha Bala Zubairu Adams expressed optimism regarding the Federal Government’s intervention and called for increased commitment in order to fulfill the expectations of the eagerly-awaiting communities.
