Ukraine Says Armed Forces Hit Russian Cruise Missile Carrier in Crimea
Ukraine claims its armed forces have hit a Russian cruise missile carrier in the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea.
Ukraine’s navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk said the navy hit the small missile carrier “Tsiklon” in an attack over the weekend.
But, he said, it’s not currently known if the cruise missile carrier is destroyed
Pletenchuk said on Monday that there was a possibility the ship had been “lost,” but could not confirm the news at the time.
He said if the Tsiklon was indeed sunk, it would mean the loss of Russia’s last missile ship in the Black Sea.
Crimea is home to Russia’s Black Sea Fleet headquarters at Sevastopol. The region rejoined Russia following a referendum in 2014
Russia has not commented on the claims.
The Russian Defense Ministry only said on Saturday that Ukraine launched a 62-drone attack on Russian regions.
It said that Ukraine had used US, French and Ukrainian missiles in the attack on Russia.
Russian forces, it said, shot down at least 103 drones, including 62 over Russian regions, as well as US Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) over Crimea.
They also shot down French guided “Hammer” bombs and US High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).
The US and its Western allies have been providing huge military and financial support to Kiev since the start of Russia’s “special military operation” in eastern Ukraine in early 2022.
Moscow has repeatedly warned that any shipment containing weapons and ammunition for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia.
