Olam Rice Farm Awards Scholarship to Indigent Students Across Doma South
Eighty-seven students from various tertiary institutions across Doma South have been awarded scholarships of 100,000 naira each by Olam Rice Farms Rukubi.
The presentation ceremony was held at the company’s premises on Wednesday.
The scholarships were granted to students from Doma South communities pursuing studies in institutions nationwide, with beneficiaries hailing from 12 communities, including Rukubi, Ijiwo, Ondori, Olegokpa, Achepe, Obendo, Akpanaja, Okpatta, and Doma Town.
During the presentation, the General Manager of Olam Rice Farm Rukubi, Mr. Brijesh Nandal, revealed that 87 recipients were selected from over 200 applicants to receive the scholarship, demonstrating the company’s commitment to the development of local communities.
Mr. Nandal expressed gratitude for the communities’ unwavering support and cooperation and affirmed Olam Rice Farm’s dedication to community empowerment through various social initiatives, such as school infrastructure improvements, solar-powered borehole installations, and ongoing scholarship opportunities.
Also commenting, some officials of the company from Lagos, Damilola Adeniyi, Legal Head, and Bola Adeniji, Wheat Meal General Manager, identified with the scholarship recipients on their success in this year’s scholarship award and urged the host communities to accord the needed to support to Olam Rice Farm’s initiatives and policies.
In their goodwill messages, the overseer of Ekye Development area, Mr. Bello Akoza, Osakpa of Akpanaja, Alh. Musa Abari Agye , and Williams Adeno Ochekpo, Aleko of Achepe, commended Olam Rice Farm Rukubi for its positive influence on the host communities and encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunities granted to them.
Representing the beneficiaries, Andrew Abari, a student of Nasarawa State University Keffi, expressed appreciation to Olam Rice Farm Rukubi for the scholarship and appealed for potential employment opportunities for graduates from the communities in future vacancies.
The organizing committee, through the Community Relations Manager Mr. Abubakar Ogashuwa, who said so far more than 300 candidates have benefitted from the scholarship, highlighted the uniqueness of this year’s event and appreciated the management of the company for the initiative.
