JIBWIS Seminar Warns Against Misuse of Social Media
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Islamic Religious Affairs, Ustaz Yusuf Sa’eed Kirki, has cautioned citizens against the misuse of social media platforms.
He made the call during the closing ceremony of this year’s seminar held at the JIBWIS Central Mosque, Lafia East, Lafia, at the weekend.
The 22nd edition of the seminar was organised by the Directorate of Education of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah, JIBWIS, National Headquarters, Jos.
Speaking in his capacity as the State Coordinator of the seminar and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Islamic Religion, Ustaz Sa’eed Kirki explained that the 22nd edition of the seminar addressed a number of issues of concern to society.
These included the misuse of social media, proper upbringing of children, the need for Muslims to fear God in their dealings, the role of youths in society and the importance of Muslim participation in politics, among other issues.
He called on participants and other members of the Muslim community to make judicious use of the knowledge acquired during the seminar and apply it to their daily lives.
The State Chairman of the Council of Islamic Scholars of JIBWIS, Sheikh Yahya Muhammad Abdullahi, said the organisation’s objective was to eradicate illiteracy by educating Muslims across the country in both Islamic and Western education.
He explained that the initiative was aimed at producing knowledgeable and responsible citizens who could contribute positively to society and become good leaders in the future.
Guest speaker at the event, Alhaji Shuaibu Aliyu Kachalla, called on Muslims to avoid jealousy in their dealings with one another, describing it as a major obstacle to societal development.
The State Chairman of JIBWIS, Alhaji Abdullahi Gindau, represented by Associate Professor Idris Muhammad of FULAFIA, also underscored the importance of unity among the faithful.
He stressed the need for Muslims to continually seek knowledge and improve their understanding of their religion and contemporary issues affecting society.
The event featured the presentation of certificates to 278 participants and paper presenters, among others.
