Sule Urges Nigerian Youths to Embrace Responsible Citizenship
Nigerian youths have been urged to embrace responsible citizenship and prepare themselves for the leadership responsibilities that await them in the future.
Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau, gave the charge during the second legislative sitting of the Nasarawa State Students’ Parliament, held at the Assembly Chamber on Thursday.
Declaring the sitting open, the Speaker, who was represented by his Deputy, Mohammed Adamu Oyanki, urged members of the Students’ Parliament to engage in activities that would improve their lives and contribute positively to society rather than activities that could tarnish their image.
According to the Speaker, the students, as young people, have a significant role to play in the leadership of the nation at various levels in the near future. He therefore encouraged them to sustain the spirit of patriotism, discipline and dedication to the development of the country.
During the sitting, which was presided over by the Speaker of the Nasarawa State Students’ Parliament, Surajo Dahir Mu’azu, the parliamentarians demonstrated their commitment to learning legislative processes as they actively participated in deliberations in the hallowed chamber as representatives of students from their various constituencies.
The member representing Kokona Constituency, Haruna Haruna, presented a bill seeking to provide for the regulation, monitoring and control of excessive rental charges for students, as well as the promotion of affordable student accommodation and other related matters.
Similarly, Tanimu Dahri Yahaya, representing Awe North Constituency, presented a bill seeking to establish the Awe North Constituency Students’ Skills Acquisition and Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Centre, along with other matters connected to the initiative.
Commending the performance of the Nasarawa State Students’ Parliament, the member representing Lafia Central Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the students and urged them to maintain a strong sense of direction.
The students’ legislative sitting was attended by several dignitaries, including a former member of the Assembly, Abubakar Imam Zanwa; the Executive Secretary of the Scholarship Board, Sa’adatu Yahaya; a Special Adviser to the Governor, Mohammed Abubakar; and the Commissioner of NASIEC, Aliyu Ilele Gayam.
Meanwhile, the member representing Lafia Central Constituency, Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, has assured his constituents of better days ahead.
He gave the assurance when he received various groups, including the “Operation Deliver Your Polling Unit” team from Ashige Ward, led by Haladu Haliru, and a delegation of the Gallo Unity Forum, led by Garba Garus Gallo.
