Police Pay N2.3 Billion Insurance Benefits To Families Of Fallen Officers
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has presented life insurance benefits totaling over N2.3 billion to 2,971 next of kin and family members of police officers who died in the line of duty.
Disu presented the cheques to the beneficiaries on Thursday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The IGP described the payment as more than a routine administrative exercise, stressing that it was an institutional responsibility to honour the sacrifices made by fallen police personnel.
He said the gesture was aimed at ensuring that the sacrifices of officers who lost their lives while protecting Nigerians were not forgotten.
The IGP noted that every fallen officer was first a cherished member of a family before becoming part of the nation’s security architecture.
Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has convened a meeting of the State Security Council and directed security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration and preventive operations to safeguard lives and property across the state.
The meeting, held at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, on Wednesday, brought together the Deputy Governor, heads of security and law enforcement agencies, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da. Jacob Gyang Buba, and other top government officials.
The council reviewed emerging security threats, recent attacks in some communities, intelligence sharing and preventive strategies aimed at ensuring that residents, visitors and businesses can operate in a safe and secure environment.
