The Chief Imam of Abubakar Sadiq Juma’at Mosque, Bukan Ari, Lafia, Mallam Safiyanu Otaki, has cautioned the Muslim Ummah against engaging in activities capable of tarnishing the image of Islam.

He gave the admonition during a Friday sermon.

Delivering the sermon to Muslim faithful gathered for the Juma’at prayers, the Chief Imam of Abubakar Sadiq Juma’at Mosque, Bukan Ari, Lafia, Mallam Safiyanu Otaki, emphasised that Islam preaches peace and places great importance on togetherness and peaceful coexistence.

He therefore urged adherents to avoid all acts that could bring disrepute to the faith and portray Islam in a negative light.

The Islamic cleric, who warned against using the name of Islam to foment trouble in society, reminded the congregation that such behaviour is displeasing to God and called on those involved to seek repentance.

While noting that Islam allows freedom of religious choice, Mallam Otaki cautioned Muslims against referring to people of other faiths with derogatory names linked to their religion, saying such conduct does not reflect well on them or the teachings of Islam.

He further stressed that prayer remains a key means of seeking solutions to societal challenges and urged all religious adherents to intensify their supplications for peace and unity in the state and the nation at large.

Mallam Safiyanu Otaki also used the opportunity to appeal to governments at all levels to design and implement more programmes and policies aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by the people.

He encouraged Nigerians to continue doing what is right and contribute positively to the overall betterment of society.
