Imam Urges Politicians To Embrace Issue-Based Politics
As the electioneering period continues to gather momentum, an Islamic cleric has challenged politicians and their supporters to play the political game according to its rules and ensure peaceful participation in the electoral process.
Mallam Limam Abdullah Liman of Massancin Gabas, Lafia, stated this while delivering a sermon today.
The Chief Imam of Massancin Gabas Juma’at Mosque, Mallam Limam Abdullahi Limam, who described politics as not being a do-or-die affair, cautioned politicians against engaging in politics of hatred and division.
The cleric pointed out that Islam allows participation in politics but requires those who choose to participate to maintain decorum and demonstrate responsible conduct in all their activities for a peaceful and seamless electioneering process in society.
He described thuggery, character assassination and unnecessary attacks among some politicians as unacceptable, calling for a change of attitude and a more responsible approach to political engagement.
The Islamic cleric also challenged Muslims to always observe their five daily prayers and other religious obligations, taking into account the blessings and favour attached to fulfilling them.
He called on Nigerians to pray for peace and urged them to place the interest of the nation above personal ambitions and political considerations.
