Tinubu Tasks North Central Stakeholders On Development
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has challenged leaders and stakeholders in the North Central region to come up with practical and implementable decisions that will enable the North Central Development Commission to achieve the purpose for which it was established.
The President gave the task while declaring open the first Stakeholders Development Summit of the North Central Development Commission, held at the Continental Hotel, Abuja.
The summit, which is the first of its kind, was held with the theme, “The Great Leap Forward: A Twenty-Year Economic, Infrastructural and Social Development Plan for the North Central Region.”
Declaring the summit open, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, noted that the establishment of the commission, alongside other regional development commissions, is anchored on the need to bridge development gaps across the regions of the country.
The President urged the boards and management of the commissions to be prudent in the conduct of their affairs and called on the Ministry of Regional Development to strengthen its oversight of the activities of each commission.
Underscoring the theme of the summit, President Tinubu urged the North Central Development Commission to harness ideas that are truly implementable, assuring that the Federal Government remains committed to providing the commissions with the necessary political and financial backing to enable them coordinate their activities effectively.
Appreciating the individuals and groups that worked towards the establishment of the North Central Development Commission, Governor Abdullahi Sule lauded the attention the commission is receiving, while emphasising the need for realistic measures towards the growth and survival of the region.
Chairman of the North Central Development Commission, Dr. Cosmas Akighir, noted that the summit was designed to harness ideas and identify the best ways to advance the development of the region.
The Director-General of the Commission, Dr. Cyril Tsenyil, described the summit as a turning point in the socio-economic fortunes of the states in the North Central region.
The two-day summit, attended by ministers, lawmakers, members of the political class and other stakeholders, featured presentations across different sessions, as well as the unveiling of the NCDC logo.
