Low Student Turnout Observed As Lafia Schools Resume
As schools across Lafia resume for the new academic session, low turnout of students has been observed in some schools, with authorities calling on parents and guardians to ensure their wards return to school.
The situation was observed during an assessment visit by an NBS News crew to schools in the metropolis, where some classrooms were found locked, while only a few students were seen on the school premises.
At Government Science Secondary School, Lafia, the low turnout was particularly noticeable, as no students were sighted on the premises, while members of staff were already on the ground. The school environment was unusually quiet.
The Vice Principal, Academy, Agnes Gabriel, expressed concern over the situation and called on parents and guardians to send their children and wards back to school, stressing that regular attendance is essential for effective teaching and learning.
The situation was similar at Government Junior Secondary School, Lafia East, where only a few students had returned to school, although members of staff were already on the ground and prepared to commence academic activities.
The low turnout, however, did not stop the school from preparing for the new academic session, as staff members were seen carrying out their various responsibilities.
At Royal Crown Academy, Lafia, a considerable number of students were seen on the school premises, with academic activities already in progress.
A representative of the Principal, Jushua Lucky, however, expressed disappointment over the number of students who had resumed, saying the school expected a higher turnout.
He called on parents and guardians to ensure their wards return to school, in order not to miss out on lessons and other academic activities already taking place.
