Autonomy: Speaker Urges PASAN to Discuss with Governors’ Forum

Nasarawa State House of Assembly Speaker, Danladi Jatau, has urged the Parliamentarian Staff Association of Nigeria to initiate discussions with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to develop a practical framework for realizing the autonomy of the legislative arm of government.

This call was made when the speaker played host to national officials of the Parliamentarian Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) at the state assembly complex.

The national officials of Parliamentarian Staff Association of Nigeria PASAN visited Nasarawa State and held discussions with Speaker Danladi Jatau, with the issue of legislative autonomy taking center stage.

The speaker tasked the association to engage the Nigeria Governors’ Forum in creating a feasible blueprint to resolve the autonomy matter.

Speaker Jatau, expressed optimism that granting autonomy to the legislative arm of government, as stipulated by law, would reinforce the principles of separation of powers and the rule of law, promote good governance, and address the yearnings of Nigerians.

In recognition of the support provided to the state legislature by Governor Abdullahi Sule, the Speaker appreciated the national officials of PASAN for acknowledging the efforts of the Nasarawa State House Assembly in upholding and fortifying democratic principles.

He attributed the success to the endeavors of his predecessor, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, and pledged to prioritize the welfare of assembly staff.

Earlier, the National President of PASAN, Mohammed Usman, commended the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for its leading role in implementing agreements on legislative autonomy issues and praised the assembly for passing a bill to establish the State Assembly Service Commission.

The Speaker, Danladi Jatau also hosted presidents of tribal groups in the state, cautioning against indulging in politics motivated by religion and ethnicity and warned that failure to discard such sentiments could lead the state in an undesirable direction.

The speaker highlighted the abundance of human and natural resources in Nasarawa State, emphasizing that harnessing these could transform the state positively.
