State Government Begins Process of Awarding Bursary Allowance To Indigent Students
Nasarawa State Government has begun the process of awarding bursary allowances to over eleven thousand indigent students of the state.
Executive Secretary of the State Scholarship Board, Hajiya Sa’adatu Yahaya disclosed this at the commencement of the screening exercise for the 2022/2023 academic session in Keffi Monday.
The physical screening exercise which took place at the convocation square of the Nasarawa State University Keffi was to ascertain the eligibility of students who applied for the bursary allowance via the online portal.
Addressing hundreds of applicants from Western zone in Keffi, the Executive Secretary of the Board Hajiya Sa’adatu Yahaya said over eleven thousands students will be physically screened across the State.
She explained that the exercise will continue for two days in keffi then move to Akwanga and Lafia zones respectively after which the final list will be presented to the Governor for approval, saying Governor Abdullahi Sule has genuine love and passion for the wellbeing of indegenous students.
“I urge the students to remain calm and be loyal to the government because this Governor has passion for them, he is ready to help them to make sure they study and get to the highest level that they can rub shoulders with their counterparts in other States”
Hajiya. Sa’adatu Yahaya called for peaceful conduct by the applicants through out the period of the screening and solicited support for the Governor who has shown much magnanimity in ensuring regular payment of scholarships and other financial supports for students of Nasarawa State origin studying home and abroad.
National President of Nasarawa State Students Association NASSA Comrade Hussaini Abubakar Eya who was elated with the development, expressed appreciation to the Governor for his prompt response to the needs of the students and called for an upward review of the Bursary allowance to enable the students meet their academic demands.
“We have already forwarded our proposal to the government to help us increase the allowance from 20,000 upward to cushion the current hardships ”
The Executive Secretary Hajiya Sa’adatu Yahaya and her delegation earlier paid a courtesy visit on the Vice Chancellor of the Nasarawa State University Keffi Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman to intimate her about their mission and to congratulate her on her recent appointment as the first female Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
