Nigerian Sports Journalists Freed After Kidnapping

In a thrilling turn of events, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has announced the release of six sports journalists who were kidnapped while traveling to Uyo to cover the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between the Super Eagles and Libya .
The journalists, mostly camera operators and photojournalists, were abducted along the Anambra/Imo axis.
According to SWAN’s President, Isaiah Benjamin, the prompt response of the Nigerian Army and Police was instrumental in securing the release of the kidnapped journalists.
The association is still working closely with security agencies to ensure the safe return of the remaining journalist.
In a press release, SWAN expressed gratitude to the security operatives for their commitment to ensuring the safety and freedom of media personnel.
“We want to inform our members across Nigeria and beyond that some of the sports journalists who were earlier kidnapped have been released.”
