Nasarawa State Sets Up Technical Committee for New National Minimum Wage Implementation

Nasarawa State’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, has inaugurated a technical sub-committee to devise strategies for implementing the new National Minimum Wage. During the committee’s inaugural meeting in Lafia, Akabe emphasized the Engineer Abdullahi Sule administration’s commitment to establishing an acceptable and implementable salary structure, considering the state’s unique circumstances.

Key Objectives

1. Salary Structure Harmonization: Develop a wage template aligned with Nasarawa State’s financial capabilities.
2. Pension and Gratuity Review: Consider upward adjustments in line with the minimum wage law.
3. Comparative Analysis: Study salary templates from other states.

Committee Composition

A nine-member technical committee, chaired by Comrade Jatau David Polang, has five terms of reference and must submit its report by Thursday for government action.

Stakeholder Reactions

NLC Chairman Comrade Ismaia’la Ayuba Oko and TUC counterpart Mohammed Umar Doma applauded the state government’s workforce support, urging expedited negotiations.
