Professor of Industrial Chemistry Proffer Solution to Nigeria Energy Demand

The wealth of coals and biomass that abound in Nigeria and Nasarawa State waste resources can address the nation’s energy and industrial chemical requirements if properly harnessed.

This was the submission of a professor of Industrial Chemistry, Nasirudeen Mohammed Baba of Federal University of Lafia during the 21st Inaugural Lecture.

Despite its abundant renewable and non-renewable energy resources, Nigeria still deals with challenges such as power shortage and fuel supply problems resulting in energy insecurity calling for concerted efforts to addressing it.

This, perhaps necessitated the twenty first inaugural lecture series at the federal university of Lafia to center on the Topic: Dirty Stone and Biomass: Feed Stocks For Sustainable Energy and Industrial Chemicals where the inaugural Lecturer Prof. Nasirudeen Mohammed Baba gave insights into the abundant natural resources that abound in Nasarawa state and Nigeria as a whole and their benefits.

To drive the economic success of Nigeria, Nasarawa State in particular, Professor Nasirudeen Baba called on government at all levels to increase efforts in implementing waste-to-wealth initiatives to support industrial development, alleviate poverty and enhance environmental sustainability.

The university don also spoke on the need for relevant agencies and other stakeholders to collaborate with the chemistry department Fulafia to support and finance scientific research in coal and Biomass for energy and industrial chemicals.

Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Shehu Abdurahman who chaired the occasion underscored the importance of academic research to the development of the society thus applauding the Inaugural lecture committee of the University for the Progress so far.

Chairperson Inaugural lecture of the University Professor Josephine Ode appreciated the support given the committee which led to the successes recorded thus far.

The 21st Inaugural lecture which was the second in the department of chemistry, had family friends and associates of the inaugural Lecturer in attendance as it featured presentation of gifts.
