Successful Elections in Awe Local Government Area
Voters in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have praised the effective measures put in place for the 2024 Local Government Chairmanship and Councillorship elections. This commendation came after voters cast their ballots in various polling units across Awe town, Kanje, Mahanga, and other locations, showcasing their commitment to choosing their preferred candidates for local governance.
The elections saw a large turnout of voters, including notable figures such as Hudu A. Hudu, member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly representing Awe North Constituency, Husseini Bala, and Amina Abdullahi. They hailed the elections as another achievement in the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule, crediting the organized measures for the peaceful electoral process.
The Emir of Awe, Isah Umar Abubakar, also commended the collaborative spirit of stakeholders and residents during the election. He urged the winners to govern with justice and fairness, emphasizing that the local government is the tier of government closest to the people.
APC Candidate’s Reaction
Umar Dan Akano, the APC candidate for Awe LGA, expressed gratitude for the impressive voter turnout. He pledged to adopt an inclusive leadership style if elected, aiming to strengthen the legislative arm and enhance the image of governance at the local level.
The APC had earlier announced its candidates for the local government elections, with Umar Dan-Akano chosen to contest for the Awe LGA chairmanship position. The party’s chairman, Tanimu Adamson, stated that the candidates were selected through consensus, as agreed upon and in accordance with Article 20 of the party’s constitution.
