Prioritizing Maternal Health in Lafia
Context & Action: To tackle the rising rates of maternal and child mortality within the Lafia Local Government Area, pregnant women have been strongly urged to consistently visit healthcare facilities for professional medical attention.
The Outreach: The wife of the Lafia Local Government Area Council Chairman, Hajiya Jamila Haliru Arabo, took action by visiting the Lafia East Primary Health Care Clinic and the Doma Road Primary Health Care Clinic. During her visit, she distributed sanitary pads and detergents to 100 expectant mothers (50 at each clinic) to promote personal cleanliness and help prevent postpartum infections.
Expert Advice: Speaking to the beneficiaries, Hajiya Jamila emphasized that regular visits to skilled health workers are vital for monitoring fetal development, managing potential health risks, and safeguarding the lives of both mother and child.
Stakeholder Reactions: The Supervisory Councilor for Health of Lafia LGA, Philibus Yohanna Attah, alongside clinic heads Aliyu Mohammed (Lafia East) and Zubairu Bala (Doma Road), lauded the gesture. They encouraged beneficiaries to utilize the items wisely and keep up with routine medical check-ups to ensure safe deliveries. Hajiya Jamila promised that this outreach initiative will soon be expanded to other primary health centers across the LGA.
