Religious Education Key to Curbing Moral Decay, Speakers Say
A lack of sound foundation in religious knowledge has been identified as one of the factors contributing to moral decay in society.
This formed part of the views expressed by speakers at the third graduation ceremony of Madaratul Darul Qur’anil Kareem, Project Quarters, Lafia.
It was a colourful gathering at the residence of the late Muhammad Darda’u, a former State Accountant General, as dignitaries, family members, friends and well-wishers of the students of Madaratul Darul Qur’anil Kareem gathered to witness the third graduation ceremony.
As part of the tradition of the institution, the graduating students were invited one after another to recite portions of the Glorious Qur’an, displaying the knowledge and skills they had acquired during their studies.
Speaking in an interview, former Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, who is the father of two of the ten graduating students, expressed gratitude to Allah for the occasion.
He also encouraged parents to pay greater attention to the moral upbringing of their children, stressing that proper upbringing remained important in shaping responsible members of society.
Contributing, the State Chief Judge, Justice Aisha Ahmed Usman, commended the management and staff of the school for imparting sound knowledge to the students.
She urged them to maintain the standard and continue to provide quality religious education to children. Her position was supported by members of the State House of Assembly, Muhammad Adamu Omadefu and Muhammad Garba Isimbabi.
Delivering a lecture at the occasion, Ustaz Saleh Muhammad expressed concern over what he described as the declining attention some parents give to religious knowledge.
He said the situation was one of the factors responsible for the moral challenges confronting society and urged parents to take the spiritual education of their children more seriously.
The Head Teacher of the school, Muhammad Muhammad Baban Kande, explained that the institution was established 11 years ago with only two students.
He said the school had since grown to about 200 students and had so far produced 20 graduates.
His account was supported by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Jibril Ahmad Khalid, who highlighted the progress the institution had made since its establishment.
The event reached its climax with academic displays and the presentation of prizes to the graduating students, as well as to some parents who had made significant contributions to the growth and development of the school.
