Resident Doctors Down Tools for Assault on Member

The Association of Resident Doctors, Dalhatu Araf Specialists Hospital (DASH) chapter has declared a 3-day warning strike, prompted by an unfortunate assault on one of the doctors at the hospital.

State President of the Association, Adeleke Yakubu Ademola made the declaration during a protest against the rising assault incidents targeting health workers within the hospital.

The demonstration, saw doctors marching around Dalhatu Araf Specialists Hospital Lafia holding placards with various messages, such as “Stop the Assault on Doctors” “Doctors Are Your Friends” and “Government, Come To Our Aid” was staged  to draw attention to the escalating violence against healthcare staff.

In an address shortly after the march, Dr. Ademola expressed the displeasure of the association towards the treatment by some relatives of patients, which he identified as the cause of the assault on one of the doctors.

He clarified that the warning strike was not intended to cause inconvenience to other patient but to convey the doctors’ grievances and call for meaningful action against those responsible for assaulting healthcare workers.

Dr. Ademola acknowledged the efforts of the management of Dalhatu Araf Specialists Hospital Lafia in protecting the lives and properties of health workers but urged for more severe measures against individuals found guilty of assaulting healthcare workers and emphasized the need for relevant stakeholders to educate patients and their relatives on the need to ensure decorum within the hospital environment.

The President of the Association of Resident Doctors, Nasarawa State chapter, maintained that the warning strike was an urgent call to concerned authorities to take decisive measures and appealed to the public for understanding and patience.

He urged the public to continue to support doctors and other healthcare workers, emphasizing that it would enable them to deliver quality healthcare services to the people of the state.
