Nasarawa Students to Enjoy Merit-Based Bursary Selection, Says Executive Secretary
The Nasarawa State Scholarship Board has assured students of transparent process in selecting the would be beneficiaries of the next batch of bursary allowance instituted by the state government.
Executive Secretary of the Board Haj. Sa’adatu Yahya gave the assurance while presiding over the conduct of the screening exercise in Akwanga on Thursday. The screening of applicants at the College of Education Akwanga was in continuation of the exercise which began from the keffi zone earlier in the week.
The Executive Secretary of the State Scholarship Board Haj Sa’adatu Yahya expressed satisfaction with the process so far and assured of transparency in the selection process, regardless of any kind of interest, saying Governor Abdullahi Sule remains the Governor for all citizens of Nasarawa State.
She enjoined all applicants to ensure they turn up for the screenings at the designated centres of Keffi, Akwanga and Lafia, after which those who missed out during the Zonal screenings will be given the grace to do so at the Scholarship Board headquarters. In her words;
"Latest by end of June we should have finished. All the students who have not been able to attend our screening in Keffi zone, Akwanga zone and Lafia zones will now come to the office and all the process will end by the end of June "
While urging the students to maintain decorum throughout the period of the screening exercise, the Scholarship Board executive officer however noted that a proposal will be made to the Governor to review upward the bursary allowances to enable the students cope with their academic demands.
The NASSA President Comrade Hussaini Abubakar Eya and some students who were successfully screened during the exercise in Akwanga, Suzan Bala from the college of Education Akwanga, Hauwa Aliyu and Salihu Hamza from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria all lauded the gesture by the Governor and assured of support always.
Over eleven thousand students of Nasarawa State origin from various tertiary institutions of learning across the country applied for the 2022/2023 bursary allowances awaiting screening and selection by the board.
