Renowned Scholar Advocates for Applied Theatre Program to Bring Peace to Communities

Renowned Professor Samson Victor Duga from the Federal University of Lafia has advocated for the introduction of Applied Theatre as a degree program to enhance peace and conflict resolution in the society.

He made the call during his inaugural lecture at the university.

The MIS hall filled with guests including members of the Senate, Deans, directors, heads of departments, traditional and religious leaders, as well as family and friends of Professor Samson Victor Duga, the atmosphere was filled with celebration and admiration for the accomplished professor.

Professor Duga’s inaugural lecture, titled “Applied Theatre: The Science of Individual and Community Transformation,” emphasized the significant role that theatre plays in raising awareness and promoting peace through dramatic and theatrical performances.

He advocated for the inclusion of Applied Theatre as a degree program in Nigerian universities to equip students with the necessary skills for societal development.

Recognizing the importance of investing in theatre education, Professor Samson Victor Duga commended the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia for his unwavering support and highlighted the value of enhancing students’ knowledge in this field.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, commended Professor Duga’s dedication to research and encouraged him to continue his valuable contributions towards improving the standards of education at the institution.

During the event, Justice Ahmed Ubangari Alaku, the Aren Eggon, acknowledged Professor Duga’s commitment to positively impacting lives through academia and urged him to maintain his exemplary work ethic.

The fifteenth inaugural lecture series concluded with the presentation of awards and gifts to Professor Samson Victor Duga in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the educational sector in the state and Nigeria as a whole.
