The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State has taken a significant step towards ensuring transparent and credible primaries ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.

The party has constituted five committees, tasked with conducting the primaries in a fair and democratic manner.

Dr. Aliyu Bello, the state chairman of the party, inaugurated the committees at the party secretariat on Saturday.

He expressed satisfaction with the composition of the committees and charged them to be proactive in their duties. Bello emphasized the importance of adhering to democratic ideals to ensure a credible exercise.

The party chairman reiterated the APC’s commitment to maintaining sanity during the primaries and ensuring a level playing field for all members.

This move is in line with the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, 2022, which provides guidelines for the mode of primaries, including direct, indirect, and consensus methods.

Mohammed Alkali, speaking on behalf of the committee members, thanked the party leadership for entrusting them with election responsibilities.

He pledged that the committees would utilize their wealth of experience to discharge their duties effectively. The screening process is set to commence on October 13, 2024.

With these measures in place, the APC in Nasarawa State demonstrates its dedication to upholding democratic principles and promoting transparency in its electoral processes.
