The Federal Government has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing food security in Nigeria. Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Abdullahi, emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to address challenges in the agricultural sector, with food security being a top priority under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to Abdullahi, the government declared a state of emergency on food security last year due to poor performance. He stressed that food security is crucial for adequate nutrition, economic growth, poverty alleviation, and gender inclusivity.

The government’s initiatives aim to improve agricultural productivity and mechanization. Abdullahi noted that food security is a critical component of Nigeria’s economy, expected to play a vital role in poverty alleviation and gender inclusivity.

To achieve food security, the government has implemented various programs, including the Commercial Agriculture Development Programme (CADP) and the National Food Security Programme. These initiatives aim to boost food production, reduce importation, and increase employment opportunities.

The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) has also emphasized the need for urgent measures to address the current food crisis in Nigeria. The group recommends a comprehensive approach to alleviate hunger and provide practical solutions.
