Gov. Sule Says No To Hoarding of Commodities
Traders and Marketers Association in Nasarawa State has been tasked to prevail on its members to desist from hoarding food items among other unwholesome practices.
Governor Abdullahi Sule made the plea when the leaders of the Traders and Markers Association paid him a courtesy visit.
Governor Abdullahi Sule lauded the leadership of the Traders and Marketing Association, the Emir of Lafia and other stakeholders for their level of intervention towards putting a stop to the rising prices of foodstuff across the state.
Frowning at the situation where traders hoard food items and attributing it to the removal of subsidy, Governor Sule said it is a system that must be discouraged owing to the effect it poses on the masses as well as the economy of the country.
While Government is not relenting in ameliorating the difficulty faced by the people in the wake of the current economic reality, the Governor, therefore, pleaded with the leaders of the traders and marketing association to see reasons why such practices should be put to an end.
Nasarawa State Chairman of the Traders and Marketing Association, Alhaji Musa Aliyu Turaki Gamji said the visit to the Government House stems from the outcome of the meeting of the association and consultations arising from the astronomic increase in the prices of goods in the market.
He attributed the situation to the increase in transport fares due to the removal of fuel subsidy and activities of people who come in from other states to buy goods from markets in Nasarawa State.
The Chairman of the Traders Association explained that the association embarked on a sensitisation visit to markets across the state to interface with their members towards bringing the needed changes in the prices of goods and services.
